I won't lie, its not exactly an easy read, but if you're patient and take your time with it, you will undoubtedly come to appreciate it as much, if not more so than anything else you've ever read.
This novel not only inspired Ibn Tufail's contemporaries in the Muslim and Arab World, but perhaps more so the great minds that shaped Western Enlightenment, such as Voltaire, Locke, Boyle, Defoe, Rousseau and many more. The influence it had on Western thought, science and literature is in fact, immeasurable.
Without a doubt one of the most important books ever written, period.
I can't call this an Islamic text, but it is a great window into thought of it's place and time. I get something new each time I rescan it.
As the first philosophical novel it reads more like a biography, which I suppose is the point. Very believable. Traces the path to enlightenment of a progenitor male. Still relevant today. Meditate on the Self!
